Shauderville man arrested with a firearm
PORT ELIZABETH – While ensuring that the community in Port Elizabeth adhere to the lockdown regulations, SAPS court members arrested a 26-year-old suspect with a prohibited firearm in Shauder Avenue yesterday afternoon, 22 April 2020.
It is alleged that at about 13:45, the members were patrolling the streets in Shauderville when they noticed a VW Polo with 7 occupants driving in Shauder Avenue. The vehicle was stopped and as the last passenger got out of the back of the vehicle, the members noticed that he had a firearm in his hand. The .38 revolver with 5 rounds of ammunition was seized. The serial number was filed off.
The 26-year-old was detained on charges of possession of a prohibited firearm, illegal possession of ammunition and for violating the regulations of the Disaster Management Act – not confining himself to his residence while the other six were charged and issued with fines for contravening the Disaster Management Act – not confining themselves to their residences.
The arrested suspect is expected to appear in court soon.
