Saray Khumalo is the person that the whole of South Africa is talking about. The business executive is the first black African woman that has ever reached the peak of Mount Everest. This was the fourth time that she tried climbing onto the highest point of the earth.
In 2017, she had to be assisted off the mountain by the rescue team in a helicopter. According to News24, she was hurt because of harsh weather when she was attempting to get to the peak. The other times when she tried climbing onto the mountain she was disturbed by the Nepal earthquake and an avalanche.
Today (Thursday) the Summits With A Purpose page announce that Saray has reached the South summit at 7:15 am. Tweeps praised the South African woman for her courage to climb Mount Everest. The minister of Arts and Culture, Nathi Mthethwa, was one of the people who also congratulated the courageous woman.
The minister says, “Your achievement will forever be etched in our history. Thank you for making Africa proud!” South African Humanitarian, Ulrich Janse van Vuuren, says, “Huge congratulations to South Africa’s #SarayKhumalo for conquering Mount Everest! You are incredible and an immense inspiration to people across the continent. African girl, nothing is impossible. The former South African Public Protector also congratulated the mother of two.
