WESTERN CAPE – In our pursuit to fight bribery and corruption, members of the Bellville Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit in Stikland arrested a 29-year-old suspect from Parow for bribery this morning. In November 2019 an illegally imported BMW 325i, from Singapore was impounded by the Bellville VCI Unit for investigation. The suspect approached one of the police officials stationed at the Bellville VCI Unit earlier this month and offered him a R10 000-00 bribe to issue a disposal order to release the vehicle from the pound. During our undercover operation, the suspect was arrested and the R10 000-00 bribe money was confiscated. He will appear in the Blue Downs Magistrate’s court on Friday on a charge of bribery.
In an unrelated police intervention yesterday, a 37-year-old suspect was arrested in Lower Crossroads in possession of a firearm and ammunition. Members of Philippi East Crime Prevention Unit reacted on a tipoff and pounced on the suspect’s residence in Block 1 when the discovery was made. He is expected to make a court appearance in Athlone tomorrow for the possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition.
