Tebogo Mokgomo (45) and Matevane Mokatsanyane (42) appeared today before the Stilfontein Magistrates’ Court on a charge of murder. They will remain in custody until their next court appearance on Monday, 30 August 2021 for a formal bail application.
Their court appearance emanated from an incident wherein a 29-year-old Palesa Maruping was found hanged inside the bedroom of a house in Khuma Location near Stilfontein on Wednesday, 18 June 2021, at approximately 12:55. Subsequent to the discovery, the police opened an inquest docket for investigation.
With cooperation of members of the community, police questioned Matevane Mokatsanyane who is the owner of the house where the victim stayed and it was established that it was Tebogo Mokgomo, who is the victim’s boyfriend. It was consequently established that the pair allegedly stole the victim’s two cell phones and locked her inside the house. They came back later the same day and allegedly hanged her.
The accused were arrested and charged with murder.
The Provincial Commissioner of North West, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena condemned the incident and pointed that no stone will be left unturned in ensuring that the accused are convicted.
