Charges of murder and attempted murder are being investigated by the police officers from the Political Task Team. On 12 May 2019, at 17:45, Martin Nkosenhle Sithole (47) and Golden Shange (57) were allegedly shot dead by unknown suspects while they were in Voortrekker Street in Newcastle. A bystander sustained injuries. The docket was assigned to the Political Task Team for further investigation.
After an intensive investigation, the team managed to arrest Peter Mazibuko (53) and Philani Thwala (39) in 2019. They are out on R5000-00 bail. The case against them was remanded to 12 November 2021.
The detective team is appealing to the members of the community to assist in locating Phakamani Hadebe (35). His warrant of arrest was issued by the court and reward of up to R20 000-00 has been offered to anyone who may have information that will lead to his successful arrest.
