Suspects arrested in Gansbaai with a firearm and drugs

To ensure the safety of the community, members of the Overberg Cluster conducted an intelligence driven operation in Gansbaai late last night and raided a residence in search of a firearm. The firearm was not found, but the 30-year-old occupant of the residence in Leeubekkie Street, Blompark was arrested for the possession of 69 mandrax tablets.

The operation led the members to a second address in Kapokblom Street at around 00:10 where the firearm they were looking for, a pistol without a serial number and nine rounds of ammunition were found. The 27-year-old suspect was arrested for the possession of a prohibited firearm and he is due to make a court appearance in Hermanus together with the one arrested for the mandrax, once they have been charged.

Meanwhile the Cape Town Flying Squad reacted on information yesterday afternoon and arrested a 39-year-old suspect for being in possession of 11 boxes of illicit cigarettes valued at R41 200-00 at an address in Athlone. He is expected to make his court appearance in Athlone on tomorrow.
