WESTERN CAPE – Swift response by members of the Browns Farm Sector Team led to the arrest of four suspects shortly after a delivery truck was hijacked yesterday morning at about 10:00 in Browns Farm. Armed suspects allegedly hijacked the truck with goods and loaded them into a Toyota Avanza which they used as a getaway vehicle.
Through follow up investigation done by the team four suspects were arrested. One with keys of the hijacked truck, an Avanza driver and a couple who was found in possession of spices looted from the truck. Police found the looted items hidden in a refuse bin inside their shack.
The suspects aged between 25 and 29 are expected to appear in Athlone Magistrate Court on Monday, 13 July 2020. The driver of the Toyota Avanza and the other suspect who had the truck keys will face hijacking charges and the couple the possession of stolen property.
Meanwhile two teenagers aged 16 and 17 appeared in the Athlone Magistrate Court on Thursday on charges of hijacking. The suspects were part of a group who forcefully took a driver’s vehicle who had responded to a request to pick up someone in Crossroads on Wednesday but while he was waiting for the client in his car, he was approached by this group who pointed him with a firearm and drove away with his vehicle. Investigation was done which resulted to the arrest of the two suspects.
