The former Miss South Africa, Bokang Montjane-Tshabalala, has weighed in on the argument about some of the shows that are made for black viewers. People have been divided on the effect that some of the “black” reality shows have. These shows have gained a lot of viewers, with some of them making the shows trend on social media.
The former Miss South Africa says the shows that are made for black viewers are stupid and make black people seem pathetic. She says that people need to know the reason behind the content that is shown to them. “The shows created for our black people are so stupid and make us look so pathetic. I wish people understood how orchestrated all this is: to keep the black child a prisoner, to never broaden their horizon nor inspire them to be great at anything,” says Bokang Montjane-Tshabalala. Siyabonga Ngwekazi, commonly known as Scoop Makhathini, spoke about the content on Moja Love on his YouTube show, POPcast, alongside fellow hosts DJ Speedsta, Ms Cosmo and DJ Vigilante in August.
The media personality spoke about how he didn’t like the way black people were being portrayed. He first spoke about shows such as ‘Our Perfect Wedding’ and ‘Loveback’ then he spoke about the Moja Love channel. “This all started with LoveBack and My Perfect Wedding, where people were seen coming out of helicopters with dust everywhere in Hammanskraal. We don’t need those kinds of things. Now we have a channel called Moja Love, where everything has been taken a step lower. Instead of making content that builds the nation, it is dilapidating it,” said Scoop Makhathini.
