GAUTENG – On Saturday, 16 May 2020, Police arrested three suspects after a silver Toyota drove pass the traffic board members. The traffic pursued them and called for backup.
Preliminary reports suggests that the same Toyota was involved in the shootout last night in Yeoville, Johannesburg.
Police cornered the silver Toyota just over three kilometres away from where they passed the traffic board in Kempton Park. The three occupants were arrested while police recovered four firearms.
Police seized the silver Toyota and four illegal firearms with ammunition, cellphones.
A total of three suspects aged between 28 and 40 were arrested and charged with possession of unlicensed firearms. The arrested suspects will further be profiled to check if they were not involved in other crime in Gauteng. The firearms will be sent for ballistic testing to determine if they were used in other crimes.
The Gauteng Provincial Commissioner has commended the partnership between the Police, Traffic Officials and private security members that has yet again proven to play a valuable role in efforts to eradicate crime.
The suspects will appear in Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 18 May 2020.
