Rupert, who is chairman at Richemont, is 291st on the global rankings rich list, from 248th over the past several months. Although he has dropped significantly from 179th richest in the world in 2015. Johann Rupert remains the third richest South African but has lost substantial wealth in recent times, thanks largely to declining sales in Swiss-based luxury-goods company Compagnie Financière Richemont SA.
