KWAZULU-NATAL – On 25 July 2020 at 09:10, the owner of a business premises situated in Springfield Park was busy assisting a customer when six males entered the premises.
Suddenly one of the said males pulled out a firearm and pointed it towards him and demanded that he open the storeroom. The suspects tied him and the patron who were left on the floor. They then removed three TV sets, sixteen laptops and fifteen monitors. The owner was also searched before the men stole cash and two cellphones. The suspects fled in a white Ford Ranger with no registration plates. The total value of property taken was estimated at R239 400-00.
On the same day, police officers from Greenwood Park followed up information about the suspects involved in the said business robbery. Upon further investigation a suspect was identified and traced to Durban North. A vehicle suspected to be used was spotted in the said area and three suspects were seen jumping into the vehicle before they left on Riverside Road. Police officers together with a private security company gave chase and pulled over the vehicle. One of the occupants was positively identified and led police to KwaMashu where a number of stolen electronic items taken at the business premises were found inside a house.
A further search was conducted at the premises and a VW Polo with false registration plates was found. Preliminary investigations conducted at the scene revealed that the vehicle was stolen in the Sydenham area. Inside the boot of the vehicle, various housebreaking implements such as bolt cutters and crow bars were found. Three suspects aged between 30 and 45 were placed under arrest. They are expected to appear today before the Durban Magistrate’s Court.
