Tweeps Teach Each Other How To Get Rid Of Racism #HowNotToBeRacist. Tweeps are trying to eradicate racism by showing others how to stop being racist.
Racism has been a huge problem in our society. It is whereby people look down on others or hate others. The people do this based on how others look or what others believe in. The most recognised form of racism is based on skin colour. Recently, a woman by the name of Vicky Momberg was arrested because of a racist rant against a police officer.
Tweeps are trying to eradicate racism by showing others how to stop being racist. The tweeps used the hashtag #HowNotToBeRacist. Some tweeps said people must learn to pronounce other names correctly. One tweep says, “learn how to pronounce your ngq, qh, mhle, gqw qxa & so many others. Most of you haven’t even been outside of SA but can pronounce words like Tchiakovsky, Nietzshche and Shweinsteiger.” One tweep says, “Learn to say our African names, if you can say “Kimberly” then you can say “Mbali.”
One tweep says, “…never start a sentence with the words “I don’t mean to sound racist, but…” One tweep says greeting others is important. The tweep says, “You don’t have to know people to greet them. If we’re at the doctor’s waiting area for instance don’t just greet the admin and sit down, ignoring everyone else in there as if they’re pot plants. Enter and greet. You won’t lose anything.”
Other tweeps included a hilarious twist to the hashtag. One tweep says, “Don’t panic and call the cops if you see two black man (men) moving their TV at 3 AM.” One tweep says, “Turn down the Aircons in (during) winter…” One tweep included a land expropriation reference. The tweep says, “Don’t be a boring Boer maan wena (you) Van Tonder, get yourself a shack & give me your 7 farms…”
