People in South Africa have been feeling unsafe with the recent protests, rapes and murders. Some of the people that have been sexually assaulted have ousted their alleged perpetrators on social media. Some tweeps have now attempted to engage with the president, asking him to help with the issues that the country has been recently facing.
The tweeps used the hashtag #DearMrPresident. Most of the tweeps urge the president to help in the matter of sexual assault that is haunting the country. Some of our celebs also tweeted using the hashtag. DJ Zinhle says, “please say something!” Radio personality DJ Fresh says it’s not time for speaking but for action. “I don’t think you should say anything!!! Time to DO!!!” One tweep says, while the president takes time on responding to the issues, young girls and woman are not secure.
The tweep says, “#DearMrPresident as you continue to be silent. No woman is safe, no girl child is safe…How we wish you could understand the after taste of your silence…” Ulrich Janse van Vuuren says, “#DearMrPresident Where Are You?’” One tweep says, “People are missing classes, work, interviews, appointments…Gauteng is a mess, buildings [are] burnt down, cars, etc…women and children are missing, raped and killed???[Where are you]???” The president responded to the violence that has been happening in the Central Business Districts, condemning the acts that has been happening.
