South African president, Cyril Ramaphosa, was at the annual G7 summit. A Journalist from the United States of America drew the attention of south African social media users when she posted a picture of the president with other world leaders. What grabbed the attention of the tweeps was the fact that the journalist identified the other three leaders in the post but called the South African president an “unidentified leader.” Most of the tweeps were infuriated by the journalist calling President Cyril Ramaphosa an unidentified leader.
These had tweeps reacting in different ways to the post. The journalist by the name of Darlene Superville said: “World leader bear hug before the group photo @ #G7Summit in Biarritz, France. @EmmanuelMacron @narendramodi @JustinTrudeau and one unidentified leader.” One tweep commented on the post saying “Are you kidding? The ‘unidentified leader’ is Curil Ramaphosa of South Africa.” One tweep says, “Baba wanted to introduce Cyril Ramaphosa to world leaders and he rushed to introduce himself now he is referred to as “an unidentified leader” by international reporters…”
One tweep says, “a whole White House press person referring to Cyril Ramaphosa as an Unidentified leader in a G7 photo.” One tweep says what the journalist did makes him sad. The tweep says, “…it saddens me that a fellow black person would call an African leader “unidentified leader”, like their irrevelevant and not with talking about. It just shows how ignorant Americans (especially black Americans) are…” One tweep says, “Black Americans are not her for Africans. Imagine the disrespect of ‘one unidentified leader’ when Cyril Ramaphosa is one of the most identifiable current African presidents. A journalist for 30 years but can’t do simple research on who attends the #G7Summit, shameful.”
