One social media user tried to scam Keabetswe Jan (@akreana) and Tumi Sole (@tumisole) asking them to fund her so that they could bury her cousin who committed suicide by the name of Kerry. The social media user by the name of Lihle said she is the Kerry character’s cousin. Some twitter followers blamed Keabetswe Jan for Kerry’s suicide because she was contacted for help through her famous “O jewa Ke eng” statement. South African Twitter found out after a while that Kerry was an account created by Lihle.
The tweeps were frustrated at the user’s use of social media to scam people and make people be against Keabetswe Jan. Some tweeps were frustrated at some of the tweeps’ for blaming Keabetswe. One tweep remembered the time when Nichume committed suicide and people blamed Denise for her sucide. The tweep says, “When Nichume committed suicide social media blamed Denise and said it was her fault. Kerry committed suicide and again you guys are blaming #Keabetswe whereas it was everyone’s responsibility to help.”
One tweep says, “to all those who attacked this lady over a scam it will be wise to eat a humble pie and apologize, death was there since the days of Adam we must stop pointing fingers and blaming other people for death it really hurt.” One tweep says, “I hope y’all know that Kerry is actually Lihle and that she tweeted that she committed suicide so that all the donations (if there were any) would pass through her. And now both accounts are deactivated by Lihle. Scam.”
As Tumi Sole was trying to help the young lady he realised that both the Lihle and Kerry account were deactivated. He then also realised that it was a scam. The girl revealed that she created the Kerry account because she just wanted to be noticed by people on social media, making her take this path.
