Two Man From Eastern Cape Apprehended For Robbing Cigarettes At Gunpoint. Two men from the East London in the Eastern Cape have been found charged for six robbing at gunpoint.
Two men from the East London in the Eastern Cape have been found charged for six robbing at gunpoint. The men were apprehended for aiming at British American Tobacco delivery vans from August 2013 to April 2014. According to the South African Police Service, the two men were given 12 years in jail by the East London Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
The 30-year-old, Ntando Ntobongwana, and 32-year-old, Yanga Jenete, both aimed at cars that were supplying cigarettes to Spaza shops. The police state that the men would lock the driver at the back of the car. The police say, “The two men would threaten the driver at gunpoint, lock him inside the back of the BAT (British American Tobacco) van and flee the scene with the boxes of cigarettes in a getaway vehicle.”
The Serious Organised Crime Investigation side of the Hawks unit started an investigation that led to the two men. Thus getting them apprehended by March 2015 in Cape Town. The two men are said to have gotten away with about 48 cigarette boxes at that moment. Yanga Jenete was given 48 years for four charges of robbery, which is 12 years for each robbery, and five years for kidnapping . The sentencing will be happening at the same time for him, meaning he will be serving 12 years in jail. Ntando Ntobongwana was given 60 years, which will run with his 12-year sentencing.
