The East London Magistrate’s Court sentenced 31-year-old Thembalethu Vellem to an effective 13 years imprisonment for robbery of a clothing store in Vincent, East London. Mandilakhe Nkonyeni, aged 26 was sentenced to 6 years for theft.
This was after armed men entered the store in June 2019 and held the staff at gunpoint and made off with a number of cellphones worth about R150 000-00. The security guard on duty spotted the getaway vehicle and the registration number was then circulated and was later spotted in the Quigney restaurant where two suspects were arrested and some cellphones recovered.
