Two sisters from Mpumalanga were apprehended for allegedly murdering their mother and staging an accident. The two sisters are said to have done this because they wanted to be eligible to receive a payment of R80 000 from a death benefit policy that they did for her. Police officials state that one of the sisters admitted to the killing of the mother, she also supposedly included that she pinned down her mother’s legs while her boyfriend was sexually assaulting her.
The body of the mother, Wanter Dlamini, was discovered on the side of a road by the 6th of January. Brigadier Leonard Hlathi, the police spokesperson, says the two sisters allegedly plotted with a female neighbour to take a policy out on their mother. The police spokesperson says that when the policy reached the point they wanted, they thus planned to kill the 62-year-old woman. Brigadier Leonard Hlathi told the “Sowetan’ that the policy would offer R40 000 and if the lady passed away due to an accident the amount would be doubled.
That’s the reason why after they strangled her they took her body and left it the side of the road. “According to information at our disposal a lady took out life insurance in the name of the deceased in November, after she got her documents from the two sisters…Following investigations, it transpired that a woman claimed her life insurance. Obviously, she needed police information to give the insurer…The police therefore told the insurance company to stop the payment as there was a police investigation under way,” says the police spokesperson. One of the sisters admitted on Tuesday. The sister was at the Barberton Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday based on the charges of accomplice to sexual assault and murder.
