EASTERN CAPE – A vigilant response from our members led to the arrests of two suspects who were found in the possession of illegal firearms and ammunition.
In the early hours of this morning, 14 August 2020 at around 02:30, members of the Provincial Integrated Team conducted an intelligence driven operation in the Khayelitsha and Elsiesrivier policing precincts during which search and seizure operations were conducted. One particular address produced a successful outcome when members discovered a Walther PPK 9mm short pistol with several rounds of ammunition in Mdlwamba Crescent, Site B, Khayelitsha. A 55-year-old male was arrested for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, and he is expected to appear in Khayelitsha Magistrate’s court on Monday, 17 August 2020.
In an unrelated incident, last night, 13 August 2020 at approximately 21:45, members attached to the Anti-Gang Unit were busy conducting crime prevention duties in the Bishop Lavis area when they acted on information about a suspect hiding at Citrus Street, Bonteheuwel. Upon arrival at the address, the members found the suspect and proceeded to search him. A Norinco Star 9mm pistol and several rounds of ammunition were found in his possession. A 37-year-old male was arrested and is expected to appear in the Bishop Lavis Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 17 August 2020, on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
