Viewers Start A Petition To Get Back ‘Giyani: Land Of Blood’ Back On SABC 2 #KeepGiyaniLand_of_blood. It was recently announced that the SABC 2’s Xitsonga telenovela ‘Giyani: Land Of Blood’ will be ending on the channel.
It was recently announced that the SABC 2’s Xitsonga telenovela ‘Giyani: Land Of Blood’ will be ending on the channel. It left a lot of people sad and some just furious as it was supposedly the first television show that has been representing Xitsonga people. It has also prompted some viewers to start a petition to ensure that the show stays on SABC 2 with the show that is set to replace it.
The people who started the petition say the television show has grabbed the hearts of a lot of South Africans, teaching them about life in the cultures that were involved in the telenovela. “Would like to take a stand against the removal of the first Xitsonga drama at SABC 2 after it has only been on for some few weeks. The drama has stolen [the] hearts of multitudes of South Africans whereby it even [teaches] other tribes the ways of Tsonga, Venda, Mapedi and Balobedu speaking people’s culture and their daily challenges.” The petition also says the show has found a way to teach people how to unite and acknowledge the differences they have as tribes.
“It is said that it is going to be replaced with a Pedi telenovela. However, what we stand for is rather they keep them both on different time slots as we are all about embracing the languages of each tribe. By removing this Tsonga drama with a Pedi drama it will cause some controversy. In whcich we believe introducing a Sepedi is good however, SABC has hosted a lot of Sepedi dramas for years and this is the only time where Xitsonga drama has been visualised,” says the petition. Others have commented on the ending of the show on social media.
