Vryheid Speaker Apprehended For Allegedly Stealing Generator From Fire Department Engine. Michael Khumalo, the AbaQulusi Municipality speaker, also an Inkatha Freedom Party representative was apprehended in his office at Vryheid in KwaZulu-Natal on Thursday.

Michael Khumalo, the AbaQulusi Municipality speaker, also an Inkatha Freedom Party representative was apprehended in his office at Vryheid in KwaZulu-Natal on Thursday. The man was apprehended based on allegations by African National Congress representatives, that he stole a generator from a municipal fire engine in 2017. He is alleged to have kept it at his house for personal usage for over two years, reports the Vryheid Herald.

According to reports, Michael khumalo stated that he was just keeping the generator in storage after it was employed for a road show in his ward. Reports state that the African national Congress representatives allege that the workers had disclosed to them that speaker had told them to bring the generator to his home for a family funeral, and he thus kept it for his private usage. Representatives of the Asset Forfeiture Unit reportedly confiscated the generator from the home on the 22nd of November.

The following day, Michael Khumalo reported the generator as stolen at the Gluckstadt police station. According to reports, the speaker said that officials that raided his home did not contact him, the municipality or the local police station, to state why they had taken the generator. According to ‘Vryheid Herald’, the speaker knew that the police were planning to apprehend him on Thursday, he supposedly also accused the African National Congress of employing the South African police Service to fight political battles at AbaQulusi against the Inkatha Freedom Party leadership. He appeared at the Vryheid Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, where he was released on bail.
