Business mogul Vusi Themekwayo has recently posted a picture of a watch that was considered fake, which resulted in him being called out by a wach_maniac, a South African timepiece blog. The blog told Vusi about the certain original features that the watch has which are not included in the one the business mogul was wearing. This also resulted in one of Vusi Thembekwayo’s rivals, Sizwe Dhlomo, making fun of him.
He has released a press statement speaking about the incident. He says the post of the watch has been deleted on his social media account, he says that he also sent it his whole watch collection for an authenticity check. He said he was proud of having the watch that he had because of his previously disadvantaged background. He says that having a watch collection of his favourite brands had been a dream of his for several years.
“Over the past five years, I have been following several watch brands and developed a wishlit of brands I would love to own. This list is deeply personal to me. It hangs in my vision board & is [a] constant source [of] motivation,” says Vusi Thembekwayo. The man says that he has been buying from the person who sold him the watch for the past five years.
When watch_maniac told him about the watch being fake, Vusi asked if watch_maniac could check his whole collection for him. Vusi says they haven’t replied yet but he has contacted a trusted dealer in South Africa. The public speaker says, “They have not yet responded, but I have since consulted a well renowned & respected dealer in the country. As you read this, they are assessing my collection.” He went to say that he was tricked by the seller, just like every other consumer.
