Parents laid their 30-year-old son Thabiso Pekeshe due to a drug overdose. The parents prayed that he would stop using nyaope, along with leaving his negative friends. On the day of the funeral, the alleged friends ruined the funeral on Wednesday. The incident happened at Mapetla in Soweto.
A video recording was shot of what happened at the place. The alleged Nyaope friends were threw food on the ground, smashed plates and also trashed the tent that was at the area. Johannes Selaye, the father of the late Thabiso, told the ‘Daily Sun’ that the friends blame them for allegedly poisoning their child. The father went on to say that they raised the Thabiso Pekeshe regardless of his drug issue.
“He terrorised us and the community, but we still loved him. I gave him his own backroom and we fed him,” says Johannes Selaye. The father says his son got sick, his friends told him to head to the hospital. He passed away at the hospital. The father states that they said that he was puking rice, the friends thus thought the rice was laced with poison therefore killing him.
The father says the autopsy revealed that he died from a drug overdose but the gang of friends didn’t believe it. On Wednesday, when they went on a bus heading to the graveyards, the bus driver left them at the police station as they were unsettling. “At the police station they got off the bus and walked home to where women, including my wife, were preparing food for the people when they came back from the cemetery,” says Johannes Selaye. The stepmother, Nonia Radebe, went home to clean up after she was done helping the ladies prepare food for the mourners.
The people at the scene were in terror as the gang went by destroying materials at the funeral. While the stepmother was cleaning herself up, she got a call telling her that she should not come back because of the gang., The friends supposedly blame her for his passing away. Emily Maake, the aunt, says they have to pay for the dishes that they broke because they borrowed them from neighbours.
