An off-duty Johannesburg metro police official was thought to have been drinking alcohol when he rolled in metro police official vehicle. The official was with three other people in the vehicle during the weekend. Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar, the Johannesburg Metro Police Department spokesperson, says the incident occurred on a Sunday.
The police official works at the department’s bylaw management unit. The Johannesburg Metro Police Department says the van rolled over in Soweto. The police official was hurt by the impact, along with the three other people that were in the van. Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar says, “All three male civilians who were inside the van were injured, as was the off-duty officer, and had to be taken to various hospitals.”
A file for careless and neglectful driving was opened against the police official that was driving the vehicle. The spokesperson says the police official is suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol. The matter will be examined on an internal basis and a file will be opened against the police official for misconduct, according to Johannesburg Metro Police Department Spokesperson.”The JMPD views this officer’s misconduct in a very serious light, because he has caused injury to civilians, he has damaged property and such bad behaviour will not be tolerated,” says Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar. The video recording was retrieved from a CCTV camera, with the police official vehicle on the far side of the road from the camera. The car is this seen losing control and then hitting an electric pole, letting a spark out.
