Four Economic Freedom Fighters Members of Provincial Legislature were forcefully taken out of the Eastern Cape Legislature. The Members of Provincial Legislature were taken out while there was the State of the Province Address by Premier Oscar Mabyane on Tuesday. They were taken out because they wearing red overalls. The representatives were outnumbered by the guards.
A video recording shows the Members of Provincial Legislature of the part fighting to stay in the legislature. Yazini Tetyane, the Economic Freedom Fighters leader in Eastern Cape, says they were taken out for questioning the speaker Helen Sauls-August about the rules regarding the dress code. “She suspended the rules. She indicated we must not raise point of orders. They said we must leave the house and we fought back. The bone of contention is the dress code. The Constitution applies to all provinces; why is this province any different. How can the house follow a rule that bars us from wearing overalls,” says the party’s Eastern Cape leader. He states that the party will still come dressed in red overalls when they argue the State of the Province Address next week.
The speaker’s spokesperson, Lwandile Sicwetsha, says the rules of the legislature in the Eastern Cape were precise in regards to dress code. Lwandile Sicwetsha says the parties were reminded about the rules as they prepared for the State Of The Province Address but the Economic Freedom Fighters did not pitch at the meetings. The rules were found in the sixth admin stating that the Members of Provincial Legislature were to not wear shorts, Jeans, gumboots and several more, according to the spokesperson.
