A grade 10 learner from Limpopo, Mokgadi Machaba, has shown that there are no limits to ones dreams. The student made a blueprint and constructed his vehicle. The student used several parts that he got from his village to make the car. The car operates with a motorbike gearbox, says the grade 10 pupil.
It also operates on an electric engine, he also got the seats and the dashboard from an old BMW. He bought the tires for R60. He also states that the conduction of creating the vehicle was all done by him. The ‘Daily Sun’ reports that he used R5000 for the items that were employed for the vehicle. He acquired the money by selling firewood with his mother’s donkey cart. He states that he never gave up on his dream because of his background.
“I kept my focus and never looked at my disadvantaged background or gave up on my dreams. I spent a lot of time at the scrapyard to learn about designing cars. When it breaks, I can fix it,” says Mokgadi Machaba. It is reported that physical sciences and mathematics are part of the grade 10 pupils curriculum, which are the mandatory subjects for mechanical engineering. He states that he assisted his neighbour so that he could use his welding instrument. The mother states that’s she helped him where she could. “I’m alone and only have social grant, but gave him money when I could. When he completed his car in August, he took it to school to show teachers. On Sundays he gives me a lift to church,” says the 67-year-old mother, Mmaselaelo Machaba.
