Watch! Inspirational Group Of Women Only South African Firefighting Crew. The group is situated at the Working on Fire base in Newlands.
Team Juliet is the first firefighting group that only consists of women. The group is situated at the Working on Fire base in Newlands. The Nature Conservation Corporation Wildfires crew has been working together for over three months. The group that consists of 16 women has graduated at the Chrysalis Academy.
They have finished a pretty difficult firefighting training that has prepared them to look at the taxing Cape Town wildfire season. Kylie Paul, the superintendent, told News24 that it was significant for there to be space for females. “We’ve started with an all-female crew to show that we can do it. And to show that we can do it well. The ultimate goal is for us to integrate into male crews…So that we become, not male firefighters or female firefighters, but firefighters,” says superintendent Kylie Paul.
The team leader, Lindokuhle Filo, states that she has always wanted to be a firefighter. She also states that was nervous when she fought her first fire not so long ago. However, when she got the first fire, she could not wait for the next call. The team has taken care of over three fires so far. The group is looking for a permanent base.
