Watch! Nando’s South Africa’s New Board Game Has People On Social Media Howling. People were jokingly introduced to a South African version of Monopoly called Mzansipoli.
On Tuesday, Nando’s launched a new controversial advertisement. People were jokingly introduced to a South African version of Monopoly called Mzansipoli. The ad also introduced people to a multi-racial family playing the game.
The people playing the game got to put their squatter rights into place, takeaway land and also play a card titled ‘the race card’. And with the ‘white privilege’ card, there is no need to go to jail. When a person gets on the etoll point, they pay if they want to. If a supposed racist neighbour goes to Orania you get cash reward. However, ‘black tax’ will take away most of your cash rewards.
The game is not meant for sale but Jake Johnstone, the Nando’s marketing manager, says we have been playing the game all along. “Nandos grew alongside this young democracy of ours, so we’d take a gamble that we have a firm grasp on what matter to Mzansi. Our satire only highlights existing conversations that are important to have if we are to beat a game rife with corruption and confusion,” says the Nando’s marketing manager.
The advertisement has received a lot of reactions from people on social media. One tweep says the marketing people of Nando’s are a treasure. “All I’m saying is that whoever does marketing for Nando’s is a national treasure, says the tweep. One tweep says, “Is #Mzansipoli an actual game? Lol game nights would be so lit. I love how Nando’s Marketing team is so clued up on political affairs and how well they execute it through ads…” One tweep says, “Nandos SA tackles the social issues we are facing in an indirect, polite and controversial approach. Yet, it works for them perfectly…”
