A woman had a child snatched away from her arms near the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) in Cape Town on Wednesday. The woman couldn’t defend herself as a large amount of refugees were roughly removed by police officials. The refugees and other fellow foreign nationals have been having a peaceful sit-in demonstration due to security concerns for some weeks outside the United Nation High Commission for Refugees offices.
According to reports, police officials circled in on the area and evacuated the protesters. A video showing some people fighting against officers. One lady can be seen holding onto her child as the police attempt to take the baby away. The child also held onto the lady as the police officers coerce her into letting go of the lady. After some time, the child and the woman were separated. The child was thus taken away from the lady.
100 individuals had been apprehended after they failed to supposedly note the call for them to disseminate. The police officials were following the court order to evacuate an estimate of 300 asylum seekers and refugees who were at the sit-in demonstration. The owner of the property was the one who applied for the order. Some of the people have been given safe haven by a church.
