Soccer players had to run away from the field to save their lives on Sunday. This was due to a person who was driving a BMW X5 driving onto the field and allegedly attempted to run them down. The event happened at Lethlabile in the North West.
The soccer players that were almost run down were playing for the ABC Motsepe League match. The video recording of the event came up on the internet. The video recording shows the vehicle getting onto the field, speeding towards the players on the field. It then turns and heads for the substitute players. The spectators were commenting, with some laughing at the incident that occurred.
All the players spread out as the vehicle spread towards them. Nhlanhla Tshabalala, the secretary-general of the South African Football Players Union, told News24 that they are surprised by what occurred at the soccer game. “This person could have killed 30 people by doing what he did. He was being disrespectful to the players and to their families,” says the secretary-general of the South African Football Players Union. He acknowledges that the they have spoken with the president of the South African Football Association about the issue. A case has been opened by the association.
