Watch! Steve Hofmeyr Cuts His Ties With DSTV By Driving Over His Decoder. The Afrikaans musician does this just after the Naspers broadcast entity, MultiChoice, said that it shall not produce any material that includes Steve on any MultiChoice product.
Steve Hofmeyr, a controversial Afrikaans musician, released a video of himself destroying his DSTV decoder and satellite on Thursday. In the video, Steve smashed the decoder with his car and he also threw the satellite from the roof top at his home. The Afrikaans musician does this just after the Naspers broadcast entity, MultiChoice, said that it shall not produce any material that includes Steve on any MultiChoice product.
The pay-tv platform released this statement just after their threat to withdraw their funding of the Ghoema Music Awards if the controversial Steve Hofmeyr song, Die Land which means “The Land”, wasn’t instantly withdrawn from the nominations of the show. During the Ghoema Music Awards saga, the pay-tv’s group executive for corporate affairs, Joe Heshu released a statement saying that Multichoice is “committed to the building of a non-racial society and strongly condemn any acts of discrimination.”
He also said that the company is proud of its backing towards Afrikaans content on DSTV and also Afrikaans shows. He says the company will not change the backing they give Afrikaans and other South African languages. Joe Hesu says, “It has come to our attention that Steve Hofmeyr was nominated for a Ghoema music award in the category for Best Music video. We have requested that Steve Hofmeyr not form part of the event that we sponsor as his views are not aligned with our values. We welcome a society where freedom of speech is celebrated, however we take a stand against racism.”
Steve Hofmeyr uploaded a video of himself destroying his DSTV products. He also said that he’ll give whoever destroys their products in support of him an amount of R10 000. He said that his “competition” runs till the 1st of June.
Steve’s followers were fully behind him. With some of the showing what they did with their DSTV satellites. One follower said: “Whoop wells done Steve Hofmeyr we live you. We have cancelled our multi Choice long ago and we love it.” Another follower made an Afrikaans hashtag that simply translates to we stand together with Steve. One other follower showed a video of himself burning his two decoders. One follower said that he cancelled his showmax subscription in Australia.
