Yesterday (Thursday) President Cyril Ramaphosa had his second State Of The Nation Address. The president was talking about every issue that the country currently has. Some people watched the State Of The Nation Address just to see the red carpet fashion of the political figures and their guests, they also wanted to see some of the acts. The event had the first Khoisan person become part of the act.
The South African National Defence Force soldiers caught the attention of a lot of people, especially the Mabena of the group. A video recording shows the soldiers marching for the president as part of the act, however, one person failed to stand up straight as they were marching. The soldier couldn’t stand firm like his other colleagues. He was at the back row. One of the seniors behind him was then frustrated by the mishap.
Social media users were in stitches when they saw the video. One social media user says, “Leave Mabena pls (please)…Epic trending personality 2019 award goes to Mabena…I knew it…” One social media user says Mabena did it again. The user says, “Once again mabena.” Some social media users referenced what Mabena’s superiors said. The tweep says, “That Mabena is tall and lazy for nothing…”One social media user says, “mabena please disappoint me again.”
The Mabena name became viral when one soldier called Mabena couldn’t carry out the tasks given to him effectively. The original video recording had soldiers running while carrying men on their backs as part of their training. However, Mabena was being too slow. One of the superiors is the heard saying Mabena is tall and lazy. In the second part of the video, they had to climb up a wall but Mabena couldn’t climb the wall. The superior is then heard saying that he knew Mabena was going to disappoint him. The name is now used to describe a person who can’t carry a task.
