Going out to socialise, explore and have fun safely without an adult is an important part of a teenage child’s journey towards independent adulthood.
Here are a few mall safety tips:
Go with a group of friends. There is always safety in numbers.
Make sure your phone is charged in case you want to send a message to your parents/guardians or call them.
Confirm a time and place where you parents / guardians will pick you up. Make sure that the place where you wait for them is well-lit and not abandoned.
Do not allow cellphone conversations, text messaging, or even headphones and music to be a distraction to you. Always stay alert of your surroundings.
Always know where the nearest exits are in the case of an emergency.
Be aware and trust your instincts.
