The vigilance of a member who attended a motor vehicle accident between Herold and Uniondale on the N-9 in the early hours this morning, yielded excellent results when members attached to the George SAPS arrested four suspects aged between 28 and 42 after they found two firearms and ammunition amongst their luggage.
They were all occupants of a Toyota sedan that was travelling towards Uniondale on the N-9 when the driver lost control where after the car left the road and overturned. All four sustained slight injuries and were transported to the George hospital via ambulance to receive medical attention
Whilst attending to the motor accident scene, the member in attendance noticed some strange suspicious behaviour on the side of the suspects and alerted his colleagues on duty in George to check their luggage as soon as they reach the George hospital. When the suspects arrived in George, their luggage were thoroughly checked. Members discovered two firearms and ammunition in their possession. They subsequently confiscated the firearms and ammunition and arrested the four suspects.
They meanwhile had been charged with illegal possession of firearms and ammunition and are in custody at the George police holding cells. They are scheduled to appear in the George magistrates’ court tomorrow, Monday, 07 December 2020.
Police management in the Western Cape commended the members for their vigilance and commitment to eradicate the proliferation of illegal firearms in our province. Members have been urged to remain vigilant during the Safer Festive Season and will continue to concentrate on amongst others, the proliferation of illegal firearms and ammunition, drug trafficking and transportation of stolen vehicles and other property.
