Concerted efforts by police to eradicate cable theft that has a negative impact on the economy of this region and threatens the lives of citizens yielded positive results when Rural Flying Squad members arrested two suspects after copper cables were found in their possession.
On Thursday, 28 April 2022, the members conducted vehicle patrols along the N2 highway near the turnoff to Victoria Bay outside George when they spotted two men acting suspiciously. The vigilant members approached the men and found 23,1 kilograms of copper cables in their possession. The suspects were unable to account for the possession of the copper cable. Police confiscated the items and arrested both suspects, aged 33 and 34, on a charge possession of suspected stolen property each. The pair is expected to appear in the George Magistrates’ court once charged.
In an unrelated matter, on Wednesday, 27 April 2022, the same team, operationalised information on a motor vehicle which was reported as stolen at Isipingo in KwaZulu-Natal during August 2021.
Investigation took the police to a house at Concordia, Knysna where the Volkswagen Golf 6 was found. The members seized the motor vehicle. Those responsible are yet to be arrested.
