WESTERN CAPE – Our mission to fight gang violence and to remove unlicensed firearms and ammunition continues to yield positive results when several suspects were arrested in areas like Elsie River, Manenberg and Wallacedene.
On Thursday, 19 November 2020, at about 09:00, Elsies River SAPS members received a complaint of a fight taking place at 25 – 9th Avenue, Leonsdale. Upon their arrival at the scene they received information of a suspect. Members gave chase and found the suspect where he was busy hiding a firearm in 11th Avenue. The 25-year-old suspect was arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and possession of stolen property (firearm). Further investigation established that the firearm was reportedly stolen in Oudtshoorn in August 2019. The suspect is due to appear in court once charged on the mentioned charges.
In an unrelated matter, yesterday at 11:10, a 24-year-old male was arrested in Manenberg for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and possession of prohibited firearm.
Manenberg SAPS Crime Prevention Unit members were busy with visible policing patrols when they received information of a suspect in possession of a firearm, hidden in a wendy house at an address in Beatrix Lane, Manenberg. They went to the address where they found the suspect as described with a 9mm pistol, with the serial number filed off and eight rounds of ammunition in his possession. Further investigation also found that the male is wanted in connection with the attempted murder of a 17-year-old boy earlier in the week. He was arrested and will be appearing in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court on the mentioned charges.
On Wednesday, 18 November 2020, members of Maitland Flying Squad received information about a firearm in Wallacedene area, Kraaifontein. Members searched the premises and found a. 38 Special revolver, with the serial number filed off and 12 rounds of ammunition. They also confiscated 36 sachets of tik with an estimated street value of R 2 160-00.
Four suspects aged between 14 and 36 were arrested on a charge of possession of unlicensed fire arm and ammunition, as well as possession of drugs. They are due to appear in the Kuilsrivier Magistrate’s Court once charged.
