Efforts to keep our communities safe and rid it of unlicensed firearms, yielded positive results when members of the Maitland Flying Squad arrested six suspects aged between 25 and 35 for the possession of prohibited firearms in Nyanga last night (2022-04-03). The members were busy with stop and search operations when they stopped a vehicle and searched it. Two firearms were confiscated when the occupants of the vehicle could not produce any licenses to possess the mentioned firearms.

The suspects are due to make their court appearances in the Athlone Magistrates court on Tuesday 05 April 2022 on the mentioned charges.
Meanwhile, three armed robbers aged between 24 and 34 were arrested in Waveren Street, Tulbagh on Saturday, 2022-04-02.
The owner of a convenient store was opening for the workers at around 08:15 when three armed males entered the store, demanding money from him. Members were informed and they responded swiftly, ultimately tracking the suspects to Van Der Stel Street. Upon arrival, the suspects opened fire, upon which the police retaliated, wounding one suspect.

All three suspects were apprehended and the vehicle that was used in the robbery was seized as well as a pistol with ammunition and cash. The three suspects were arrested and detained on charges of attempted murder, business robbery, possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and possession of stolen goods.
The suspects will appear in the Tulbagh Magistrate’s court on Tuesday, 2022-04-05 on the mentioned charges.
