Observant members attached to Western Cape Public Order Policing conducting crime prevention patrols on 2020-12-04 in Hartenberg Street, Voorbrug Delft, a known gang hotspot, noticed a suspicious looking male at a notorious gang house. Upon seeing the marked police vehicle, the suspect fled and members pursued and apprehended him. He was searched and the members found firearm with six rounds of ammunition. While busy on the scene with the arrest, the members of the same group received further information of a consignment of drugs that was delivered at an address in Voorbrug, Delft. They immediately operationalized information and searched a premises in Bloemendal Street, Voorbrug, Delft, where they found 45 full mandrax tablets with a street value of R2 745. A 34-year-old man was arrested on charges of possession of drugs.
Both suspects are due to appear in the Bellville Magistrates Court once charged. In an unrelated matter, the assistance from the community in fighting crime, has once again proven to be successful.
On Friday 04 December 2020, Bishop Lavis SAPS Crime Prevention Unit members accompanied by members of the Anti-Gang Unit was doing routine patrols in Bonteheuwel area.
Information was received about a male loitering in Bramble Way. When the marked SAPS vehicle drove down Bramble Way, they saw a male fitting the description. The identified male person tried to evade arrest, but the members from the Anti-Gang unit was already on foot close to him. The member of the Anti-Gang unit then searched the male person and found firearm loaded with nine rounds in his possession. He could not produce a valid license to possess the firearm and was then arrested.
The 35-year-old male will appear in the Bishop Lavis Magistrate Court on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition once he has been charged.
