Five suspects aged 16, 17, 18, 20 and 30 were arrested this week following their involvement in five different cases of rape, house robbery, possession of an imitation firearm as well as robbery and possession of a hijacked vehicle in Browns Farm and Nyanga.

Two suspects aged 18 and 20 appeared in the Athlone Magistrates’ Court today. The 18-year-old is appearing for the possession of an imitation firearm which he was arrested with on Tuesday in Empolweni Street in Browns Farm. The 20-year-old is appearing on armed robbery charges and possession of a hijacked vehicle. The members were on patrol when they busted the suspect in possession of three different cellular phones and a vehicle. During questioning it was discovered that one cellular phone belonged to an e-hailing driver whom he and accomplices robbed in the same street in Browns Farm.

Two teenagers aged 16 and 17 and a 30-year-old suspect appeared in court yesterday. The 17-year-old appeared in Wynberg Magistrate Court facing a charge of rape. The suspect was arrested on Tuesday after he allegedly raped a 12-year-old girl early this month in the area of Nyanga while the 16 year old was arrested after he and accomplices allegedly robbed three plasma televisions, cash and cellular phones in Cala Road in Nyanga. The complainant was asleep when she heard a bang and suddenly suspects budged inside the house demanding cash and phones. The suspects also took three plasma television sets and fled. One plasma TV was found abandoned in the neighbouring yard.

The 30-year-old was arrested after they robbed the complainant in Browns Farm. The complainant sell meat on FACEBOOK and had received a call for an order from someone in Browns Farms. The complainant was approached by about eight unknown males while waiting for the client who demanded cash and cellular phone. Investigations led to the arrest of the one suspect.
