Bishop Lavis police made their presence felt in the policing precinct when they arrested suspects in possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
Police members were busy with patrols on Friday, 25 March 2022, at around 07:45, in Bonteheuwel. When they approached Lupin Street, they saw a man disposing of a firearm while attempting to flee. The police members swiftly apprehended the suspect and arrested the 29-year-old man on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
In an unrelated incident, police members conducted patrols near to Rooiels Road in Bonteheuwel earlier today, just after midnight at around 00:15, when they spotted a man sitting on a roof. The members confronted the suspect and when he jumped off in a bid to flee, he was apprehended and found in possession of a 9mm pistol with ammunition. The 27-year-old man was arrested and detained on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
Meanwhile, police members were busy with stop and search operations in Vygie Road today at around 11:00. An unknown man approached, and upon seeing the patrol vehicles, he fled the scene with police members hot on his heels. The 26-year-old man was arrested and detained when he was found in possession of an unlicensed 9mm pistol and ammunition
Once charged the suspects are expected to make a court appearance in Bishop Lavis Magistrate’s Court on the mentioned charges.
