There were news of international planes from high risk areas that were doucumented landing at the O.R.Tambo international airport. The planes had a lot of South Africans in the country freaking out. The fear is because of the rising number of South Africans that have been stated to be positive of the virus.
Black Twitter reacted to the planes allegedly landing at O.R. Tambo airport. One tweep says, “So basically there’s no lockdown in SA, it is business as usual at OR Tambo international airport. Cyril was lying to us again.” One tweep says, “Can I just tell you guys that I saw a British Airways 747 Boening passing by to land at OR Tambo around 10:05am. I stay 30km away from the airport and I can confirm that I have seen more than one international aircraft flying [past] here.” One tweep says, “So a flight from Italy landed at OR Tambo International Airport at 08:44 and a flight from Germany will land at 09:00…We are in trouble here.”
However, the airport is actually sending the planes from high-risk areas back as acknowledged by the Airport Company South Africa. The organisation says South African citizens are the only ones that are allowed to get off the planes. OR Tambo international airport informed a worried South African citizen. “Please be advised that foreign nationals will not be permitted to disembark. The aircraft will be contained at an isolated bay with all officials ensuring the utmost care is taken. We are working with the airline to ensure that foreign nationals return to the country of origin,” says the aiport Twitter account.
