Zambia’s Minister Bans Somizi From Coming To The Country Because Of Sexuality. Somizi Mhlongo has been benefitting from being proud of her sexuality.
Somizi Mhlongo has been benefitting from being proud of her sexuality. However, in Zambia he got banned from an event because of his sexuality. Somizi was supposed to go to the 2019 Lusaka July, a social event that combined horse racing and fashion. Zambia’s Minister of National Guidance and Religious Affairs, Reverend Godfridah Sumaili, banned Somizi from coming to the event. Reverend Godfridah Sumaili banned Somizi from coming to the event because he was a gay person.
The minister says that the government will not overlook an instance where organisations were inviting people with “questionable characters” that might adjust the morals of the country. “Every Country has laws. Here in Zambia, we have a constitution that guides citizens on morals and its Christian values. We do not condone gayism. It is a crime and inviting such people means we are slowly accepting the vice,” says Reverend Godfridah Sumaili.
The minister harshly reacted to the calling of Somizi Mhlongo by a company called PR Girl Media to the Lusaka July event. The choreographer was invited to the event to talk about the progresses of being a gay person. According to a news site called News Diggers, Somizi says he was invited to the event but wasn’t planning on visiting Zambia.
“First of all I was invited to some event in Zambia, I think so, when I heard I was not allowed or banned from the country I rolled my eyes because I never at any point intended to visit Zambia in the first place, I did not even know they had issues with people that are Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Questioning and Intersex. When I realized that I felt so bad for the LGBTQI living in that country,” says Somizi Mhlongo.
